Last night (Thursday 25th August) at 7pm, five of our members (Mark, Matthew, Adam, Andrew and Jamie) began an ambitious and courageous challenge to row continuously between them for 72 hours, until 7pm on Sunday 28th August, in aid of a very worthy cause close to their hearts.
The target…. to complete the equivalent of at least 20 marathons on the rower (843,900 meters).
The purpose…. to raise as much money as possible for Endometriosis UK.
Endometriosis has significantly affected the lives of Mark and his wife Laura over the last nine months, they have had an ongoing battle to regain some normality after Laura was diagnosed with Stage 4 Endometriosis, which is the most severe stage of this condition.
Laura has already undergone 2 operations to treat her symptoms over the last 3 years and is having a further operation at the end of July to continue with her treatment. Endometriosis UK is a charity which supports women who are dealing with this condition on a daily basis and also helps to raise awareness too. Part of the battle for them has been trying to understand the challenges they now face on a day to day basis and also in planning for the future, raising awareness of Endometriosis we hope will at least help someone who is going through this in the future to have more information and help available to them.
During the time of the event, none of the 5 in the team can leave the gym (the event is being held at Crossfit Leyland). The gym plan on holding a few events to coincide with our row, such as a BBQ on the Sunday Afternoon and ‘open to all’ training event on the Saturday so that everybody can come down and support while we take on this task.
All proceeds raised will be going to Endometriosis UK
Almost 24 hours into the challenge and the boys have already surpassed their donation target of £2000 on their justgiving page https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/20marathonrow
All donations would be gratefully received.
